This is a masterpiece oil painting by either Georges Francois P Laugee (1853 - 1937)  and / or his father, Desire Laugee (1823 - 1896). Signed lower left in CAPS LAUGEE fils. Originally, it was obtained as a painting by Georges Laugee but under extensive review,  seems to be by Desire Laugee (1823 to 1896). Regardless of if it is the famous father or famous son painter, a case of the importance of this painting by either artist can be made based on several major points. If you look up The Laundress that sold in 2014 at Christys in New York and look at images, you will see a young woman. Compare the attire from The Laundress to this piece. Seems that both have same shoes with the shoes of this painting now worn with holes, seems same bonnet in both but this painting the yellow bonnet looks tired, seems they have the same dress but in this one it is now tattered, and seems to have same shawl but in this painting, the shawl is now held by the boy. ADDITIONALLY, this piece has same capped signature LAUGEE as is the signature style of Desire Laugee verse his son, Georges Laugee, who tended to sign in a cursive style. This piece is signed lowered right in caps with word fils. In french, fils means son. Maybe, the assumption is that fils is referencing Georges Laugee as son of Desire. However, if you look up bio of Desire Laugee, note that he had a father as well whom paid for Desire to go to art school and thus, Desires father started the Laugee family painting legacy. Desire often referenced his father in his paintings as well as the common theme of pheasants, rich vs. poor; as did Georges. So is this Georges Laugee doing a tribute to his father's famous The Laundress in almost exact form and signing it with his fathers CAPPED signature asa tribute, or, is it Desire Laugee painting his sequel to The Laundress ? Both artists sell for good money, many of paintings went unaccounted for, and frankly, neither artist isthat easy to obtain. Even possible the painting is more valuable if it is Georges Laugee as obtained verse Desire Laugee that seems to be more likely. Whether Georges, Desire, and/or a collaboration, it is a masterpiece.  The Laundress by Desire Laugee sold for over $118,000 at auction on October 27, 2014. This piece is for a museum or serious collector that can take care of it. Prior, this painting has been relined, cleaned, and restored with a newer stretcher.  Note that there is some flecking on upper portion of painting as shown in photos.  This is one to research and is magnificent in size at 53.5 inches  x 40 inches (very similar in size to The Laundress). Painting is in a gold gilt molded wood frame.

"Saint George & The Dragon"  by Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989) is a rare Dali etching on parchment paper from 1947. Only 250 (plus 10 for Dali) were made. Signed and dated by Salvador Dali on lower right, the piece also has the Cleveland Stamp on verso. Additionally, paperwork from the 1990s from Salvador Dali archives, an appraisal showing replace value at time of purchase, and original images at time of appraisal are provided. Etching come matted in 22K Gold Leaf museum mounted frame.  Framed: 33.5 inches by 26.5 inches. St. George & The Dragon  is part of the collection of MOMA. This is a very rare and well documented Salvador Dali from his earlier years that is of museum quality.  These were originally published by the Print Club of Cleveland in 1947 and distributed to membership.

Old Mill Dam, Passing Showers" by Howard Chandler Christy (1872-1952) is a rare monumental original oil on canvas by the famed artist that he created in 1946. Depicting a scene with people at the base of dam pointing across the river, this vibrant scene captures the essence of Christys unique painting style and almost mysterious mystic scene. The painting is not only signed and dated by Christy on lower left (dated 1946), Christy hand wrote the title and date on verso (See photos). Considered one of the most distinguished American illustrators, Christy painted Amelia Earhart, President Calvin Coolidge, Hubert Hoover, General Douglas MacAuthur, to name a few. Howard was active and live in New York and was also well known for his exotic female portraits during the height of his career. Glorious in size and by such a historic artist, this is a painting for any serious art collector looking to obtain an original Howard Chandler Christy. Being more of a landscape, this painting is a unique example of Christys work making it even more appealing. The frame is a gold molded frame with linen panel and been well maintained since its creation. Measurements of painting are approximately 39.5 inches by by 41.5 inches and frame is approximately 48" x 50". Painting originally came from a family that resided in Coral Gables, Florida and was hung in one of the main rooms of their Estate. A Howard Chandler Christy sold for over $178,000 at auction in 2011.

Morning is a beautiful original oil painting by Stephen Morgan Etnier (1903-1984) depicting an early day water scene with pylons & cords in the forefront, partial stern of a a small boat, and two ducks in reeds in the center. Very well done oil on canvas, this piece is signed by Etnier on bottom right and is also Etnier also handwrote the title and signed the verso (See photos). Stephen was active in Maine as well as in Califonria and is famous for his oils of waterfront scenes, landscapes, and figures. Considered a romantic realist, Etnier lived a full life and was one of the most traveled painters of the 20th century. A worldwide known artist, Etnier's work is displayed in many museums and art collections. Etnier art have sold for over $70,000 at auction. Fruit Demonstration is an original oil by Robert Brackman (1898-1980) depicting a table scene with a pitcher, vegetables and other items. This piece is in great condition and is signed by Brackman on the front as well as inscribed and titled by Brackman on the verso of the canvas  that reads - Demonstration Robert Brackman Noank, Conn. Additionally, there is a plaque on the front bottom center that reads “Robert Brackman (1898-1980).   long time teacher at the Arts Student League in New York (and a life member), it is possible this was a demonstration for one of his classes. Dimensions: Canvas from front under lining is 23 ½ ” (w) by 19 ½ ” (h) “Frame: 30 ½ ” (w) by 26 ½ ” (h). Brackman was well known for his paintings of figurines and still life. He exhibited his work seven times at Macbeth Gallery in New York City over ten year period as a one artist exhibitor. Originally from Russia, Brackman moved to the USA in 1908 where he studied along with George Bellows and Robert Henri. In 1940, Robert was commissioned by State Dpt. and Air Force for doing portraits of various people and was so popular, he had to start choosing whom he would paint. The Pond is an oil on board by Leon Richet  (1847 - 1907) . A landscape Richet often painted, the scene depicts a person in the forefront leaning over a small pond surrounded by trees. Painting is signed lower left and has Active during his career in France, his most famous paintings are of this subject matter with a person on a path or by a pond. This particular one is of the Barbizon Forest as noted on the verso along with Leon's name and former prize tag of $8500 and the dimensions (See photos). Dimensions 14" X 24". The Old Cape Cod Bow Barn Roof by Harold Matthews Brett (1880 - 1955) is an oil on board depicting an amazing scene of a storm coming with a woman fending off the wind by a clothes line in front of an old barn in Cape Cod. The Billiard Game by Jean Carolus (1814-1897) is a beautiful oil on canvas depicting a scene of a group of eight people at people and two dogs entertaining and playing pool. Carolus has many paintings with unique titles and this is one of them. The painting is signed lower middle left by Jean Carolus. Painting is dated 1859 and comes ini nice gold molded wood frame. This painting has sold several times at auction reaching over $14,000 in 2011. Dimensions: 37" x 44".  Active in Belgium, Carolus is known for his detailed interior and figurine paintings. In the manner of but likely Giovanni Paolo Panini (1691 to 1765)  or maybe, his son Francesco Panini or one of the other pupils at the time in his studio. Plaque on frame on bottom center on front reads PANINI. On bottom center under UV light, there seems to be a signature but not been able to decipher all letters. Very old masterpiece and similar theme and style of many other Panini paintings up to the clouds in backdrop of this piece.  This is a beautiful and very old oil on cloth over wood box and under wood frame of incredible detailed ruin scene as is consistent with Gian Paolo Panini work such as Römische Ruinenarchitektur mit predigendem Heiligen Paulus , Die Predigt eines Apostels vor einem Ruinencapriccio , and CAPRICCIO ARCHITETTONICO CON FIGURE E STATUA DI ACHILLE .Dimensions from back of wood frame holding cloth is ( 50 cm x 40 cm or approximately 19.75 inches by 15.5 inches. Frame is 63 cm  x 52 cm or approximately 24.75 inches by  20 3/8 inches . A famous master painter of his time, architect, and even famed a a decorator of Rome palaces, Giovanni Paolo Panini is displayed internationally to this day. Panini is most known for his paintings of ruined with incredible detail to the architecture and characaters within each piece. While dramatic scenes of ruins and architectural deisgn was his fortay, Panini also did portraits as he did of Pope Benedict XIV. Game of Life  by Leroy Neiman (1921-2012) number 74 of 250 is a rare signed limited edition etching from the "Eaux Forte 80 Suite". Comes with Certificate of Authenticity from Centaur Sculpture Galleries that is attached to verso. Original purchase receipt in possession. Piece is 371/2" x 41-1/4” including gold gilt matted and liner in beatuful burl walnut frame under glass. Signature by Neiman is in pencil and is crisp. The Windmill is an original oil painting by Franklin Briscoe (1844-1903). In this amazing masterpiece, Briscoe captures the full circle of darkness to light using a windmill as the focal point with various characters and objects in the forefront and background to capture the spectrum. It is almost like a ying and yang …very  impressive. Creating near the end of Briscoe's career/life (dated 1896), another interesting component that would normally be viewed as a flaw, is the dark lightening like streak seen under UV light that must be a repair from a prior owner or other (see photo). Rarely do you see an imperfection not noticed by my naked eye that adds to the character of a piece. With mixed emotions, this painting is available for sale. Painting was cleaned and relined prior to obtaining and is signed and dated by Briscoe on bottom right (F. D. Brisco 96”), this piece comes with an elaborate gold gilt frame. There used to be a tag description on the verso that is missing and wish I could have read what it said. Unnoticed until UV light viewing, this piece is in great condition including the frame, “save” the lightning bolt shown via photograph seen under UV light. . If you like art from the 1800s and are a collector, here is one created by one of the masters of the 19th century. Reserve set to higher spectrum of value and will not be negotiated any lower. Active and from Pennsylvania / Maryland, Franklin is known for his marine, animal, and mural paintings. Probably his most famous contribution was completed in 1885 and consisted of a ten panels that in total , was 230 feet long, and 13 feet tall. Titled "The Battle of Gettysburg", the historic piece of art details the various sequences of the battle and prior to being in possession of the University of Notre Dame,  was exhibited throughout the United States. A Briscoe has sold for over $70,000 at auction and considering the age, frame, and unique composition of The Windmill, this may be one of his best. "Troubled Waters' by Marshall Johnson Jr. (1850-1921) is an oil on canvas painting of a three-masted ship sailing in rough waters. Signed by Marshall on lower left corner with  brass plate affixed to frame reading, "Marshall Johnson 1880-1890".   Similar to Johnson's "A Close Call" depicting the ship "Skylark" near Diego Ramirez off of Cape Hope,  Marshall Johnson Jr was well known for his detailed ship paintings which were often very dramatic with romantic undertones. The artist was originally a sailor, and was on board the ship "Sunbeam" which caught fire and sank off the coast of South America in 1870. Created in 1880, Open Sailing is an oil painting by Arthur Quartley (1839-1886). Signed and dated by Quartley on front, the scene depicts vessels sailing in the open water with light captured in the forefront. Comes in beautiful hand carved gold gilt frame. Dimensions: 12 inches by  15 inches. Arthur Quartley was active in New York and Europe and was known for his marine related seascapes. He was also an engraver as was his father. Quartley was a founding member of the Tilers group that included other famous painters of the time including Winslow Homer and William Merritt Chase. "City of Collapse" is an original oil painting by Saul Kovner (Saul) (1904 - 1981).This unique piece depicts a scene of  collapsed buildings in a city  with a crane in the background (Most likely New York City where Saul painted). "Porth, Newquay" is an original oil by Louis August Sargent (1881 - 1965). The subject is a coastal seascape off of the Cornish coast where Sargent was known for painting. A vibrant example of Sargent's work, the scene depicts water crashing over rocks. This oil on board is signed by Sargent on lower left. On verso, the title of the art and other markings are handwritten in pencil (See photos). Born in London and the son of an engraver, Louis is known for his portraits, landscapes, & marine paintings as well as for his illustrations and sculptures. Sargent was exhibited regularly including the London Galleries in 1898, St Ives in 1910, and Lanhams in 1919 to name a few. Several of his famous works include "The Cornish Coast Night", "The Moon", and "Portrait of Miss Millie Dow"; all three he completed in 1911.  Sargent was heavily influenced by Post-Impressionism as are seen by the vibrant colors he used when painting the Cornish coast. "Porth, Newquay" is framed, and is in very good condition. "Gladiolas Bouquet" is an original oil on canvas painting by Adele McGinnis Herter (1869-1946). Signed on lower left corner and has artist plaque on frame. Beautiful floral painting of a bouquet of flowers in a porcelain vase  and on tablecloth. Colorful with variations of purple hues. Once part of a private Collection from Mass, Herter is known for her soothing florals as well as portraits of prominent people of her time including  Abby Rockefeller (Wife of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.). Friends, In 1911, Rockefeller and Herter were 2 of the 7 women that signed the Certificate of Incorporation for the New York Women's Cosmopolitan Club. In 1929, Herter became one of the Founders of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Herter was exhibited and received awards for her work including the Pan-American Exposition  in 1901 and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904). The Little Forest by Bernard Corey (1914-2000) is an original oil painting depicting a vibrant daylight forest landscape. Signed by Corey on lower right this oil on board is in excellent condition. Active in Massachusetts, Bernard Corey is considered one of the best New England plein air painters in the 20th century and is well known for delicate and vibrant landscapes (This original being a prime example of such). In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, Corey received numerous awards for his art contributions including the Gold Medal of Honor in 1973, the Lazare Barth Award, North Shore AA in 1964, and the Academic Artist Association First Place for Watercolor in 1964, to name a few. This is a very unique seascape   by Robert Solotiare (1930 - 2008) of boats in South Harpswell, Maine. Created by Solotaire in 1966, this oil on board is signed by Robert on bottom right as well as inscribed and dated on verso. Besides the beautiful painting, one of the most interesting features of this piece is what is outside of the margins of the oil where Solotaire where drew s a boat and indicates areas where to crop. Robert Solotaire is considered one of the best artists in Maine history and is known for his realism and industrial contributions. Born in New York, Solotaire was active during his career on the East Coast of New England, Robert's work is in Portland Museum of Art, Rockland, and others. Solotaire was influenced greatly by Stephen Etnier and stated that Etnier got him to explore art outside in nature.
